THUNDERCHILDE

THUNDERCHILDE reared up out of the hoof prints (sorry) of HIGH HORSE, a twin guitar-led hard rock band that practiced in the Y.M.C.A. in Chesterfield town centre. I wasn't a member of HIGH HORSE, but I was their lighting/special effects guy. I must admit that I absolutely loved setting off those thunder flashes, especially when narrowly avoiding blowing up band members if they stepped over the flash pots at the wrong time. I was asked if I wanted the job by Phil, the lead vocalist, as we both knew each other very well from working together as landscape operatives on the local council. This would be the start of an on/off but long musical cooperation between the two of us.

HIGH HORSE decided to bring in a manager in the shape of one Bob Barber, former guitarist with the well known hard rock band ODINSTORM. Along with Bob came his sidekick Neil Gillespie; I never did figure out what he did. Bob immediately started to ring in the changes in HIGH HORSE, much to the annoyance of certain members, and both bassist Barbara "Badger" Allen and guitarist Paul decided to leave the band. Previously behind the scenes, Badger had approached me and asked if I wanted to take over from her on bass guitar. I said I would so Badger informed the rest of the band that she was handing in her notice and that I was joining the ranks in her place. Other changes were guitarist/keyboard player Mick Wood being resigned to keyboard duties only, and manager Bob Barber took over on guitar. This, ladies and gentlemen, along with HIGH HORSE drummer Pete Gray, became the original line up of THUNDERCHILDE.
